El Salvador Pizza Send-Off Friday, July 26, 5 p.m.

Welcome to the 2019 El Salvador Blog!

Good Shepherd is hosting a pizza send-off party for the El Salvador travelers and everyone is invited.  It's Friday, July 26, 5 p.m. at the church.  We gather in the west parking lot to pack luggage at 6 p.m. then depart for Indianapolis to spend the night.  We catch an early flight to Miami and then San Salvador, the capitol city.  We'll attend church Sunday at Cristo Rey (Christ the King) in Santa Ana.  Work might be in Ahuachapan, and we'll find out more when we arrive.  Our exact work assignment depends on recent weather and how much has been accomplished by prior work groups.

Our record-setting group of 16 travelers this year triggers a donation of $16,000 from Thrivent (a non-profit corporate underwriter) to Habitat El Salvador.  This is enough to finance 4 more homes.  Habitat pays about half ($4000) and each family pays about half (with a 30-year mortgage), plus family members must work on the home building with volunteers like us.  They always prove to be very grateful people.

Thanks to the members and friends of Good Shepherd, we raised enough money for everyone's air fare again this year.  We also have 5 parents going with their sons or daughters to El Salvador.
