Jim Hack – Wednesday, August 3, 2016

We’ve had another successful day in El Salvador.  We had a great time mixing concrete for the footings of the home for our Habitat family.  We also sifted sand to use in the mason cement for laying blocks on Thursday (by the masons).  We are very grateful to have the flat job site we have!  We went to see Steve Becker’s group from Kewanee, who we worked with 2 years ago on Cristo Rey Church in Santa Ana.  What a mess his site is!  Not level at all, huge 25-foot tall retaining wall needs to be built from rocks AFTER removing all the dirt to make room for the wall.  And, the dirt needs to be delivered to the top of the hill to be used for fill.  They also had to move the cinder blocks up about a dozen steps after they were delivered to the street below.  We feel very fortunate the have received the build assignment we did – on a nice, flat lot.

It never fails to amaze me what wonderful people we have at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.  This is my 6th time coming to El Salvador for a build trip, and each time I think I can’t get people who are any better.  But, the good Lord turns around and gives me a group that is again just awesome.  We’ve all worked very hard and have been blessed with many visitors to our work site from Habitat El Salvador which gives us great encouragement to do this work for these magnificent people who, like us, love our Savior and Lord.  Thank you, you wonderful people of Good Shepherd for giving us the opportunity to go on this mission trip.  Without your love and support, there is no way it would be possible.

Jim Hack and Steve Becker, leader of the Kewanee group.  We worked with them in 2014 on the Cristo Rey (Christ the King) Lutheran Church in Santa Ana.
